In 2013 I contacted SVT and registered for a Level 3 course in Health and Social care. Their response was immediate, professional and I was assigned to my assessor Joe.
I liaised with Joe the following day and a very productive and inspiring relationship was forged over the following weeks.
It is note-worthy that I am Italian, and English is my second language; I was predictably apprehensive to expose my language skills. Joe was very supportive, and encouraged me to be myself, and approach my assignments in my own, sometimes unconventional way!
With Joe’s continuous support, I began to trust my own capabilities and grew wings.
To say that she was helpful, available at any time and approachable is to understate the care she provided me during this very challenging period. Towards the completion of my course I was nominated by Joe for the Adult Learning Award for my high standard of achievement, but much of this credit is directly attributable to Joe’s unwavering support and guidance.
Having completed all my units, we arranged to meet for the first time at my hospital to complete the evaluation. By this time I felt that I knew Joe very well, and putting a face to my email assessor was very rewarding as we felt very much at ease with each other, and I was able to convey my gratitude to Joe for going that extra mile for me.
As a direct result of this new found confidence, I am now registered for a BSc degree in Psychology and Counselling, and I can only hope that my new tutorage lives up to Joe’s example!
